Inspired by the ancient Indian University of Nalanda, whose mission was to foster the study, research and practice of all the consciousness traditions of India, Nalanda Consciousness Network (NCN) intends to explore ancient and modern studies and research into consciousness through fostering a community of scholarship, research and collaboration in philosophies, psychologies, sciences, healing paradigms, social and cultural forms and spiritual practices dealing with consciousness.

The network includes an open-ended community of established scholars and learners with their texts and/or multimedia resources, opportunities and tools for collaboration or participation in projects, courses, intensives and workshops and many other features for facilitation of consciousness study and research.

Some of the questions explored on the network are:

  • What is Consciousness (Ultimate Reality)?
  • What descriptions of consciousness can be found in different world philosophies and religions?
  • Can one arrive at a taxonomy of consciousness?
  • What relationship exists between the physical body and consciousness and how can one tap into the hidden resources of physical consciousness to effect health and healing?
  • What is the relationship between science and consciousness? Are they compatible? If yes, does the formalism of quantum mechanics apply to processes involving consciousness?

Activities of the network include (but are not limited to):

  • Focusing on the understanding of Consciousness and its role in the world.
  • Developing new models of reality and personality based on consciousness
  • Researching the intersection between the physical body and consciousness
  • Conducting fundamental and mathematical research in the observer-based emerging science, providing knowledge and support in specific projects.
  • Conducting transdisciplinary dialogues between science and spirituality, physics and brain science, psychology and contemplative traditions.
  • Promoting consciousness-based solutions to social, cultural and religious world problems
  • Being a hub for interaction with independent scholars, academic institutions, research centers and non-profits for common goals.
  • Collaborating with area universities, working with students and assisting in the development of innovative programs at area universities
  • Developing a comprehensive library on the texts of Consciousness for enhancement of knowledge.
  • Providing a broad spectrum of online and onsite educational programs focused on Consciousness
  • Publishing professional quality newsletters, journals, books and/or similar online and printed media containing articles, papers and reviews of relevant books and films providing a cross-cultural approach to Consciousness
